To maximise learning outcomes, it is essential for students to have access a wide range of resources. These resources include textbooks, reference materials and consumable items. These resources are best provided when parents commit to both strands of the Textbook and Resource Hire Scheme (TBRH).
This scheme was introduced a number of years ago with the endorsement of the Parents and Citizens Association to help reduce costs for parents. The P&C has agreed to continue to operate the Textbook and Resource Hire Scheme and are consulted each year in regards to setting the TBRH parent contribution. In 2008 the TBRH parent contribution is $130. In addition some subjects, with high consumable costs, have an additional fee which is outlined in the "Year Level Costs - Textbooks and Materials" booklet and will be invoiced separately.
By electing to join the scheme parents are authorising Glenmore State High School to receive the State Government Textbook Allowance on their behalf. They are also agreeing to pay the TBRH parent contribution and any additional subject fees, in full, each year. In return the school will then provide the student necessary resources such as:
- All textbooks required by students for as long as they are needed
- All notes and materials (excluding the student's personal requisites)
- Access to computer software and hardware including access to the Internet and email facilities
- Access to audio visual hardware and software
- Consumables such as Art, Home Economics and Industrial Technology and Design materials
- Sports equipment and the use of on-site facilities for core curriculum (eg Pool, Indoor Activity Centre and Weights Room)
- ID card
- School diary
If a student leaves to go to another school, after having paid the fees, a pro-rata refund of both the State Government Textbook Allowance and the TBRH parent contribution will be made (less the cost of replacing lost or damaged resources). If a student leaves to join the workforce, only a pro-rata refund of the TBRH parent contribution applies. Parents are required to apply for a refund prior to leaving.
PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHEME IS VOLUNTARY. Families may elect not to join the scheme and parents will have the State Government Textbook Allowance paid directly to them. Parents will then be responsible for providing their student with all resources, textbooks and other materials. Internet access is not available at the school, should this option be taken.
