NAIDOC celebrations

We would like to thank Uncle Bill Mann, of the Dharumbal Nation, who is our School Elder for performing a traditional Dharumbal Smoking Ceremony on Monday 16th July, 2012.  This ceremony is performed to cleanse and purify places, (especially a new building) to ensure all future activities held in the Mike Maher Centre will be void of negativity and bad spirits.  Sandalwood was smoked and carried by Uncle Bill while his nephew Mr Malcolm Mann played the clap sticks.  Glenmore SHS appreciates Uncle Bill’s efforts in organising and performing the Smoking Ceremony.

The front photo shows Mrs Janet Young (Principal) presenting Uncle Bill Mann with a certificate in recognition of officially becoming an Elder for Glenmore SHS.  The green tree frog and water lily were incorporated in the certificate as they are totems of the Dharumbal Nation.
