A Foundation for Future Success

At Glenmore State High School, our Year 9 and 10 programs provide a dynamic and supportive environment where students continue to build their core knowledge while beginning to explore individual interests, strengths, and future pathways.
Our curriculum is aligned with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and guided by the Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework (CARF) to ensure a consistent, high-quality educational experience that supports academic progress, engagement, and well-being.

Core Learning Areas

Students in Years 9 and 10 engage in a broad range of core subjects, ensuring a strong foundation in:
  • English
  • Mathematics (including extension and essential pathways)
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Health and Physical Education
Each subject focuses on deepening understanding, applying knowledge to real-world contexts, and building skills in communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Elective Opportunities

Students begin to personalise their learning through a range of electives designed to foster creativity, curiosity, and career exploration. Electives may include:
  • Digital Technologies
  • Business and Economics
  • Creative Industries (Music, Drama, Visual Art, Media Studies)
  • Industrial Technology and Design (Manual Art)
  • Food and Hospitality
  • Health and Physical Education (including extension pathways)

This diversity allows students to experience potential career fields and develop practical skills.

Year 9 FlexiSpace – Flexible, Personalised Learning

FlexiSpace is a specialised program offered to selected Year 9 students who benefit from a more flexible and supportive learning environment. The program is designed to:
  • Support students who may be disengaged or at risk of underachievement
  • Provide greater structure, mentoring, and wellbeing support
  • Offer a tailored approach that balances core learning with real-life skills
  • Foster personal responsibility, confidence, and re-engagement with learning

Key Features of Year 9 FlexiSpace:

  • Smaller class sizes and targeted teacher support
  • Individualised learning plans aligned with the Australian Curriculum
  • A focus on literacy, numeracy, and life skills
  • Practical and vocational learning experiences integrated into the curriculum
  • Strong emphasis on social-emotional development, routine, and goal-setting
  • Support for transition into mainstream classes, work experience, or trade-based programs
FlexiSpace acts as both a safety net and a springboard—helping students reconnect with learning and reimagine their future.

Supporting Personal Growth

Beyond academics, our Year 9 and 10 programs emphasise:
  • Wellbeing and resilience through pour Dragon Program
  • Leadership development through Student Council

Preparing for Senior Schooling

By the end of Year 10, students will have developed the confidence and clarity to choose senior subjects aligned with their goals—whether they're pursuing an ATAR pathway, vocational education and training (VET), or entering the workforce.

We are proud to support our students in becoming future-ready—equipped with the skills, knowledge, and self-awareness to succeed in Year 11 and beyond.

Career Education and Pathway Planning

Career development is embedded throughout Years 9 and 10 as part of our commitment to preparing students for the future. Students will:
  • Complete career interest inventories and goal-setting activities
  • Undertake our Work Experience Placement Program
  • Learn about senior subject selection and tertiary prerequisites
  • Participate in the My Future program and SET Planning (Senior Education and Training Plan) in Year 10
  • Explore university and vocational training options

Our Year Level Co-ordinator, Dragon Teachers, Head of Student Services and Year Level Deputy work closely with students to help them make informed decisions based on their aspirations and strengths.

Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) Guides

QTAC helps all secondary schools provide students information to assist them in  making informed decisions toward their senior subject offerings and/or future pathways opportunities. Previously provided in the form of a printed information guide, the Year 10 specific guide is now being provided digitally. To access a copy of the Year 10 digital QTAC Guide, see the 'Additional Links' above.
